Cleaning Your Oriental Rug

It is very important to address a spill on your oriental rug immediately, so as to prevent the stain from setting into the rug.  For spills of any kind, place large amounts of paper towels immediately on the spill and then stand on them to force the spill to wick from your oriental rug into the paper towels.  Repeat this process until the spill spot is almost dry.  Then, spray water from a spray bottle on the spot to dilute the stain.  Repeat this process several times.  If the stain is still present, call a professional to spot clean.

Animal urine is not a stain, it is an acid and will actually bleach out the dyes similar to a spill of bleach.  If you do the paper towell process immediately on a pet stain, you can usually save the carpet.  By immediately wicking out the urine into the paper towels and then spraying water to weaken the urine you can usually save any carpet.
